European Broadcasting Union. Choir
competition 'Let the Peoples Sing'
The Times. 2001
...The jury plucked as many as five adult choirs from
the semi-finals. So high was the standard, so difficult
the adjudication that, although the winners were
justifiably the impeccably groomed yet impassioned
Chorus Sine Nomine from Austria with their programme of
Wolf, Miskinis and Ligeti, two other choirs had to be
placed in joint second place.

… above all ,,Chorus sine nomine" - conducted by
Johannes Hiemetsberger - with its elegant and light
voices, rhythmic discipline, the careful treatment of
language and absolutely dean intonation.
The magnitude of this vocal ensemble lies in its
transparent homogenous sound as
well as in the compact and velvety presence of the
voices. The rare balance of voices and the insistent
forming of an atmospheric overall sound made an
exceptional experience of the concert.

Johannes Hiemetsberger creates music that asks for
sensitive listening. Lovingly and intensively he follows
word and sound and treads the narrow path dividing art
from nature. The accuracy of his work with the choir is
exemplary. The musical performance transmits a meaning.

The natural, vivid quality of the sound, the cultivated
treatment of vowels, a sensitively led dynamism and the
broad line of phrasing.

Besides its musical qualities the ,,Chorus sine nomine"
also offers acting qualities.
